Fixed term deposits: clearer control from request to maturity
See how Flinq connects client teams and treasury with an internal portal, approvals and maturity oversight for a more controlled fixed term deposit process.
Has the deposit been approved? Has the bank confirmed the terms? Who is following up before it matures?
For a Trust and Corporate Service Provider (TCSP), answering those questions can mean checking a spreadsheet, finding an email and asking a colleague for the latest update. Each answer may exist, but piecing them together takes time that your team could spend on the client.
Our new fixed term deposit (FTD) functionality brings that work into Flinq. An internal client-team portal connects requests with treasury processing, while approvals, confirmed terms and maturity actions stay connected to the deposit record. The aim is straightforward: give your team a clearer view of the work and more control over how it progresses.
The work between the decisions
When placing a deposit with the bank where your client’s call account is held, knowing the available products, tenors and indicative rates helps you prepare the request. The administration around that decision deserves just as much attention: passing on complete instructions, getting the appropriate approval, recording what the bank confirmed and preparing for the next decision at maturity.
A spreadsheet can hold the dates and amounts. The difficulty arises when the decisions and supporting documents sit elsewhere. If a colleague needs to pick up a deposit while its usual administrator is away, they should be able to understand its position without reconstructing the correspondence.
That is the operational problem we have focused on: making the handovers between the client team and treasury easier to manage and review.
A portal for your client team
The portal gives authorised members of your internal client team a dedicated place to raise FTD requests and follow their progress. It is designed for the people administering your client relationships, with treasury handling the placement process.
Where indicative rates are enabled, users can see the deposit products, tenors and indicative rates available in their workspace for their existing bank. This puts the relevant information at their fingertips before they request a deposit at the bank where the client’s call account is held. They can then submit a structured request with the client, amount, currency, term and funding details for treasury review.
The information carries through into the treasury workflow. Requesters can return to the portal to check their requests, helping them answer client questions without asking treasury for a separate status update each time.
The products and rate information shown depend on what is configured for your team. Indicative rates are not a guaranteed offer: final terms remain subject to bank confirmation, and your team’s mandate and liquidity checks still apply. Our guide to cash management for TCSPs considers the wider operating context.
From request to maturity
Flinq connects the main stages of an FTD’s lifecycle:
- Capture the request. Bring the placement details together so treasury has a consistent starting point for review.
- Review and approve. Complete the treasury review and any required internal approval before progressing to placement with the banking partner.
- Record the confirmation. Capture the terms confirmed by the bank and retain supporting documents alongside the deposit.
- Prepare for maturity. See upcoming maturities and manage rollover or settlement instructions as part of the deposit's continuing history.
The workflow supports your team’s dealings with the bank. An internal approval or a recorded instruction is not, by itself, confirmation that the bank has placed a deposit or moved funds.
Approvals and segregation of duties
Visibility is useful, but a shared record also needs clear controls over who can act.
Flinq supports approvals and segregation of duties. New-placement approval can be required before a request progresses, with separate permissions for creating, approving and confirming deposits. The approval controls prevent the requester or recorded creator from approving their own placement, and record who approved it and when.
Bank confirmation remains a separate step. Treasury can record the terms the bank actually confirmed, keeping them distinct from the original request. That distinction matters when the final rate, amount or dates differ from what was first proposed.
These controls support your firm’s operating policy. Your team still determines the appropriate responsibilities, client authorities and banking arrangements.
Help treasury focus on what needs attention
For treasury, the value becomes clearer when several requests and deposits need attention at once. Flinq brings deposits managed in the platform into a shared view, with statuses and filters that help authorised users find work awaiting action and deposits approaching maturity.
Supporting documents and recorded activity sit with the deposit, giving a colleague the context to continue the work. Notifications can also draw attention to pending approvals, overdue confirmations and upcoming maturities, helping the team prioritise follow-up.
When a portal-requested deposit enters its maturity window, the requester can submit maturity instructions for treasury to process. Rollover records remain linked to the original deposit, so the history continues beyond the first placement.
A practical test for your FTD process
Take one recent deposit and ask a colleague to establish what was requested, what was approved, what the bank confirmed and what happens next. How much of that answer depends on access to someone else’s inbox?
That is a useful starting point for assessing the value of a more structured process. Look at time spent chasing updates, the effort involved in handing work over and how early maturity decisions reach the right people. Those are practical measures to compare as your process changes.
With FTD management in Flinq, client teams have a clear route into treasury and treasury has a connected record to work from. For a firm building its cash-management service, that provides a more consistent way to handle deposit activity as it grows.
